Most stores follow this policy: 1) You can exchange for merchandise only and 2) you must have the receipt.  The exceptions are marked (a) and (b). The (a) stores will make a refund to your credit card or give cash with a receipt. The (b) stores do not even require a receipt to make an exchange for merchandise.  (Of course, no store gives a cash refund without a receipt.)
